Criteria of Torch Strategic Mission Strategic Countries
Q2 Which country can be included in the mission strategic countries of TSMS?Majority World, China, Japan, and Muslim countries can be included in Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship countries. Our goal is to train and equip Christians for world mission in the mission strategic countries.
Applying from Korea
Q3 I am from Mongolia, and currently residing and studying at a Korean university. Can I apply for Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship admissions?No, you are not eligible to apply for T.S.M.S. Admission. Applicants for Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship program should be residing either in their home countries or in the mission strategic countries at the point of their application.
Application procedure of T.S.M.S. Admission
Q4 I would like to apply for T.S.M.S. Admission. How can I apply?All applicants for T.S.M.S. Admission should start from the online pre- application. Only those who pass at the pre-application evaluation can continue further admission process. If you want to apply for T.S.M.S. Admission, please submit the online pre -application. Online pre-application runs all year round.
Q5. When is the last day of application for Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship admission?Pre-application is open all year round. After the online pre-application, applicant should submit application and required documents to the TTGU Admissions office by the announced date.
Competition Rate of TSMS Admissions
Q6 How competitive the T.S.M.S. Admission is?Each year we select about 10 new recipients for T.S.M.S. scholarship benefit. Number of recipients are subject to change according to the T.S.M.S. fund condition.
On average, around 70~80 applicants submit the online pre-applications.
Q7 I am from Vietnam and majored Korean language at university. I want to study theology in Korean language. Can I apply for T.S.M.S. admission?Applicants for the English programs are eligible to apply for TSMS admission. If you intend to study in Korean language, please apply as a self-funded student for the International Admission.
Availability for a married couple
Q8 My wife and I intend to study together for further mission work. Can we apply for T.S.M.S. admission at the same time, and do you have a dorm for a married couple?Torch Trinity Graduate University does not facilitate a dorm for a married couple. T.S.M.S. can be given only to one member of the family at one time. If you are considering applying for theological study together with your spouse, we advise you to apply for the international admissions as self-funded students.
Coverage of T.S.M.S. program
Q9 According to the admission guideline, T.S.M.S. program offers full scholarship to the selected students. Can we know what covers by the T.S.M.S.?Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship offers full tuition and room & board for the duration of the program including vacation periods. The total coverage of T.S.M.S. is estimated around USD14,000 per year.
T.S.M.S. recipients for PhD program will be granted full tuition and room only for the three-year period. T.S.M.S. recipients for PhD program must complete course work and dissertation writing in three years.
Area of T.S.M.S. Recipient’s Financial Preparation
Q10 If I was selected as T.S.M.S. recipient, apart from the scholarship provided by school, what areas should I, as a recipient, personally prepare for my study and living in Korea?T.S.M.S. recipients should prepare additional expenses for their study, and living in Korea such as textbook, living expense, and health insurance. For textbook, around USD 270 per semester, and for living expenses & personal effects including public transportation cost will be about USD180, and for health insurance will be about USD 40 per month. This is the average amount, so the actual expenses may vary depending on the individuals.
Responsibility of T.S.M.S. recipients
Q11 Will there be any specific responsibilities to the T.S.M.S. recipients?The goal of Torch Strategic Mission Scholarship is to equip prominent local Christian leaders for effective mission work in mission strategic countries.
For this goal, during their study in Korea, recipients are obliged to take part in church training program in their sponsoring churches or organizations learning and participating in the ministries in Korean church context. TSMS PhD students are exempted from the responsibility of church ministry.
Upon the graduation, T.S.M.S. recipients must go back to their home country or mission strategic countries and serve a minimum of two years. Yearly ministry reports for two years are recommended.
T.S.M.S. PhD Study program
Q12 I am looking for Ph.D. study opportunity. Does TTGU offer TSMS for the PhD program students?Yes, applicants can apply for PhD TSMS as well. Applicants should prepare applications referred to the “International Admission Guidelines”. PhD TSMS recipients will be granted full tuition and room for the three-year period. It is important that PhD TSMS recipients must complete the degree program in in three years.
Required Documents for Application: Exemption of Official English Score
Q13 I am from Ghana, and studied my elementary, secondary, and higher education in English. Do I still need to submit an official English score? Can I be exempted from submitting the official English scores?English aptitude is one of the key criteria we are looking into. Therefore, for fair evaluation, we request all applicants for T.S.M.S. admissions to submit an official English score acquired within two years as of the application submission.
※ Applicants from countries where English is the official language will be exempted for English score if they have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher in English. English-speaking countries are determined by the "Country and Region" of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Korea (mofa.go.kr).
Acquired Degree Certification
Q14 We have read that acquired degree should be submitted after an official verification. Do you have any guidelines for degree attestation?According to the direction of Korean Ministry of Education, international applicant’s degree acquired overseas should be verified through one of the followings and submitted to the office by the deadlines.
1) Apostille Certification, 2) Consular Authentication by the Korean embassy or consular office, 3) Certification Report on Education and Degree issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education (for those applicants who attended or graduated from schools in China). When submitted documents were not legally attested, admissions will be cancelled.
Q15 I plan to apply for T.S.M.S. admission, if I come to Korea for my study, when and how can I get a visa to Korea?After the admission evaluation, TTGU will send confirmation of admission documents to the successful applicant. The successful applicant should apply for student visa with necessary documents at the Korean embassy or Korean consulate in their country. Before visiting to the embassy, applicants must check the requirement for student visa (D2) with the Korean embassy. Additional documents might be requested at the discretion of the consulate.
Arrival to Korea
Q16 If I want to be admitted for the Spring semester, by when should I arrive in Korea?Incoming T.S.M.S. students are advised to arrive in Korea at least 10 days before the semester begins. New student orientation programs are scheduled for one week before the Spring semester starts. TTGU Dormitory will be secured for T.S.M.S. recipients for 10 days prior to semester begins.
How to get to Torch Trinity Graduate University
Q17 I would like to come and visit Torch Trinity. How can I get to Torch Trinity from the Incheon Airport by the public transportation?If you want to come to Torch Trinity Graduate University from the Incheon Airport. 1. First, please take a bus
① If you arrive at Incheon Airport, first check your arrival terminal. If you arrive at Terminal 1, go to 1st floor, bus stop no. 4. If you arrive at Terminal 2, go to B1 floor of transportation center, bus stop no. 15.② Buy a bus ticket (KRW 15,000) at the BUS or purchase a ticket from the ticket machine, if you are not sure, please ask people around.
③ Take a bus “No. 6009” toward Daechidong.
④ Get off the bus at “Gangnam Station.”
⑤ It will take around one hour to get to the Gangnam Subway station from the airport. If you miss the stop, please get off the bus at the next stop; “Woosung Apt.”
2. Take a taxi.
① When you get off the bus at “Gangnam Station”, cross the street to the right side on the way.
② Get a taxi and show our address to the driver.
③ Taxi fare will be roughly KRW 5,000- KRW 6,000.
④ Unless the traffic is heavy, it will take 15 minutes to get to school from the Gangnam Subway station.
Other scholarships available for Internationals
Q18 Do you have any other scholarship available for international students?International students at TTGU can apply for various partial scholarships during their study except T.S.M. Scholarship.
Students can apply for various scholarships during the announced periods of each semester. Recipients will be selected and notified by the scholarship committee.

Q19 How big is the student body of TTGU? What is the proportion of the international students at Torch Trinity?TTGU has around 400 to 450 student body, and 16-20 percent of the student body is comprised of international students coming from over 25 countries.
Q20 I am a newly accepted international student. This is my first visit to Korea.
I am a bit nervous to come to school from the airport by myself.
Does Torch Trinity Graduate University offer any pickup service for the incoming student?Yes, we can offer a pick service for the incoming students.
Option#1: If you want to get help for your pickup, please try to arrive at the airport in Korea on the suggested date. Then a senior volunteer will come and pick the incoming students as a group.
Option#2: Due to the limited resources, we are unable to offer a pickup service for all the individual students. Therefore, students who need pick-up service on a different date must pay for the pickup service fee.
