Fredrick Buechner Contest 2026

Writing & Preaching

 

In partnership with the Frederick Buechner Center (USA), Torch Trinity is pleased to announce Fredrick Buechner Contest 2026 in Writing and Preaching. The aim of the contest is to encourage excellence in theological writing and preaching for the next generation of promising ministers who are committed to sound biblical exegesis and theological reflection.

 

I. Qualifications

• Eligibility: Any student currently enrolled in a Master-level program (MDiv, MTS, MA, MEd, MWCM, ThM).

II. Submission Categories

1) The Writing Award

• Theme: “Go through the gates” (Isaiah 62:10)
• Requirement: Submit a well-crafted theological essay of 500 to 1,000 words on the given topic.
• Note: Book reviews are not eligible for this contest.

2) The Preaching Award

• Theme: Free Topic
• Requirement: Submit a 10-minute video of your preaching along with its manuscript.
• Format: MP4 file or a YouTube/Vimeo link.
• Recording: Can be from a live setting (church, class) or recorded privately without an audience.
• Faculty Recommendation: A few contestants may be invited to submit their manuscripts based on recommendations from the faculty (OT//PT departments).

III. Submission Guidelines & Rules

• Language: Students in the English program must submit in English; students in the Korean program must submit in Korean.
• Deadline: All submissions (MS Word format) must be emailed to buechneraward@ttgu.ac.kr by Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
• Judging Process: The Student Council panel will review submissions and recommend the top three candidates to the Faculty panel.
  • The Faculty panel will then select the final winners.
  • Anonymity: Essays will undergo a double-blind review at every stage to ensure fairness. 

IV. Awards and Recognition

• Ceremony: Awards will be presented during the Final Joint Chapel of the Fall 2026 semester.
• Prizes (English Program - Total 4 Awardees):
  • Winner (1 per category): 300,000 KRW
  • Honorable Mention (1 per category): 200,000 KRW
• Privacy Note: By accepting the award, the winner’s name, email address, and winning entry (optional) will be shared with the Frederick Buechner Center (USA) for record-keeping and recognition.

샬롬! 미국 프레드릭 비크너 재단(Frederick Buechner Center)과의 협력 하에, 횃불트리니티에서는 매년 글쓰기와 설교 분야에서 우수한 학생을 선발하여 시상하고 있습니다. 학생 여러분의 많은 관심과 참여를 바랍니다.

 

■ 공모 안내

·         마감 기한: 2026년 9월 30일(수)

·         제출 방법: 이메일 접수 (buechneraward@ttgu.ac.kr)

·         대상 과정: MDiv, MTS, MA(CC, CE), MEd, MWCM, ThM

 

■ 모집 부문

1. 글쓰기 부문

·         주제: “성문으로 나아가라” (이사야 62:10)

·         분량: A4 2~4쪽 내외의 수필 (한글 또는 워드 파일)

·         비고: 서평은 심사 대상에서 제외됩니다.

2. 설교 부문

·         주제: 자유 주제

·         제출 서류: 설교문(원고), 설교 동영상 파일(MP4) 또는 유튜브 링크

·         참고: 10분 분량의 설교 시범 영상이나 설교학 수업 발표 녹화본도 제출 가능합니다.

·         추천 전형: 설교학 및 관련 학과 교수진의 추천을 받은 후보자도 함께 심사를 받게 됩니다. (해당 학생에게는 개별적으로 원고 제출을 요청할 수 있습니다.)

 

■ 심사 및 시상

·         심사 절차: 원우회에서 1차 후보(부문별 3명)를 선발하고, 교수 심사위원단(3인)의 최종 심사를 거쳐 수상자를 선정합니다.

o    수필 부문은 공정성을 위해 모든 심사 과정에서 익명성을 보장합니다.

·         시상 일정: 2026학년도 가을학기 종강 연합 채플 시상

·         상금 내역: (한국어 과정 총 4명 선정)

o    최우수(각 1명): 30만 원

o    우수(각 1명): 20만 원

 

■ 기타 유의사항

·         개인정보 제공 안내: 수상자로 선정될 경우, 시상 및 기록 관리를 위해 수상자의 성명, 이메일 주소 및 수상작(선택 사항)이 미국 프레드릭 비크너 센터에 제공됩니다.
