Dear Students of Torch Trinity Graduate University,
May God's grace, peace, and protection be with you. all!
I hope everyone remains safe and healthy in the midst of COVID-19.
The entire country seems to currently be at war against the Coronavirus.
The Korean Ministry of Education has recommended postponing the start date of school by two weeks and we have followed those safety guidelines.
However, looking at the speed with which the virus is spreading, we have decided to postpone the start date of school by one more week, which will be on March 23rd, 2020.
If the situation with COVID-19 does not improve, we will be conducting the majority of courses online for the first two weeks of school, until the beginning of April.
We will continue to monitor the gravity and status of the situation and will make adjustments accordingly, such as reverting back to having classes in the classroom as soon as possible.
We understand that some of you may be unfamiliar with taking online classes. Some of the benefits of an online class is that you will be able to review the lecture at your own pace and personally interact with the professor.
Our professors will be sure to provide personal attention to each and every one of your questions. We have done our best to ensure that the quality of the lectures will not be compromised by these changes.
The professors are currently well under way to restructuring their lecture notes and the content for better communication.
We ask that you continue to put your trust in the expertise of our professors and in our school to provide the best quality of education possible.
I would like to assure you that we are doing our best to make adjustments with everyone’s safety in mind as we manage this unprecedented emergency situation.
We hope you can use this opportunity to use the time you are saving from commuting more efficiently and effectively. We ask for your patience, flexibility, and understanding.
Our spirituality is formed by the manner in which we react and respond to unexpected situations such as this. It is what we refer to as “Kingdom character.”
The details of the academic schedule and instructions on how to access the online courses will be followed up by Dr. Hyung Jin Park, Dean of Academic Programs.
To our new students, congratulations on your admission to our school. We extend a warm welcome!
We hope you can bear with us during this time and we hope to provide an opportunity to meet your fellow students and professors as soon as possible.

I firmly believe we shall overcome this threat to our health. Let us remain strong in our spirituality.

하나님의 은혜와 평강과 보호하심이 여러분 모두에게 충만하기를 축원드립니다.
지금 COVID-19으로 인해 우리나라 전체가 전염병과의 전쟁에 들어간 상태입니다.
교육부에서는 개학을 연기해 줄 것을 권고했고 거기에 부응해 2주를 연기했으나 상황이 악화되는 방향으로 진전되고 있어 학교는 1주를 더 연기하여 3월 23일에 개강을 하기로 결정했습니다.
그때에도 바이러스의 확산이 줄어들지 않는다면, 신학교의 모든 과목이 2주정도 온라인으로 진행될 수 있음을 알려드립니다. 그 이후에는 추이를 보면서 결정할 수 밖에 없습니다.
안정이 되었다고 판단되면 바로 오프라인으로 전환을 할 것입니다.
온라인강의가 모두에게 익숙하지는 않을 것입니다. 그러나 무엇이든지 관점에 따라 달라질 수 있습니다.
강의를 반복해서 볼 수 있고 집중해서 강의를 들은 후 교수님들과 온라인으로 개인적으로 질문을 할 수 있고 개인적인 답을 들을 수 있기 때문에 활용하기에 따라서는 예기치 않은 효과를 볼 수 있습니다.
강의의 질은 전혀 달라지지 않습니다. 오히려 교수님들은 지금 훨씬 더 내용전달에 신경을 쓰고 계시며 강의 노트를 점검하고 계십니다. 단지 강의 전달 방법이 달라질 뿐입니다.
여러분은 학교와 교수님들의 전문성을 신뢰해 주시고 전례 없는 온라인 강의로의 전환에 대해 특별한 경험을 하시게 된다는 기대를 해주시면 좋겠습니다.
학교로서도 갑작스런 전환이라 지금 전문가와 상담을 통해 최상의 방법을 찾고 있습니다.
현재 모든 과목이 한꺼번에 진행을 해야 하기 때문에 학교가 처한 상황하에서 할 수 있는 가장 좋은 방법으로 진행해 나갈 것입니다.
오히려 여러분들이 온라인강의로 인해 통학으로 흘려 보내는 시간들을 잘 활용한다면 훨씬 좋은 교육효과를 거둘 수 있을 것이라 믿습니다.
역사상 전례 없는 국가적 비상사태를 맞이하여 우리모두에게 인내와 유연성(flexibility)과 성숙된 자세가 필요합니다. 신학교 교육은 단순히 지적 내용전달에서만 멈추지 않습니다.
이러한 모든 과정속에서 여러분이 어떻게 반응하고 대처하는가를 통해서도 우리의 영적 인격이 형성되어져 갑니다. 저는 그것을 Kingdom Character라고 부릅니다.
‘We Shall Overcome!’이라는 노래가 생각납니다. 우리모두는 이 모든 것을 잘 극복해 나가며 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 영적 리더로 키움을 받을 것입니다.
특히 신입생 여러분! 축하하고 환영합니다.
학교에 자랑스럽게 입학했는데, 경험해 보지 못한 방법으로 수업을 시작하게 되었습니다.
그러나 이것 또한 곧 지나갈 것입니다. 이런 과정 후에 서로 만나면 더욱 감회와 감사가 있을 것입니다.

이 기간동안 성경을 통독하며, 기도하며 주님과 풍성한 시간으로 보내시기를 바랍니다.
